Tesco is lowering the price of a range of items at 2,000 stores across the UK as it expands its Aldi price match offer. The price match deal will now be available at 2,000 branches of Tesco Express, where the prices of some items should be the same as you would pay at budget supermarket Aldi.

It is the biggest change to the scheme since 2020, when it was launched. More than 200 items are included in the price match promise at Tesco Express stores. The exact items on offer will vary depending on store size and location.

Staple items like pasta, milk, iceberg lettuce, tinned tuna and more will be among the products matched to Aldi., and will be identified with an Aldi Price Match logo

Tesco UK CEO Ashwin Prasad said: “We know that household budgets are again under pressure, but we are committed to keeping the cost of the weekly food shop affordable for Tesco customers. By extending our Aldi Price Match scheme to Express stores we can now give customers the confidence that they can get great prices on a range of everyday products at Tesco, whether that’s in our large stores, online or in more than 2,000 of our local convenience stores."

The change comes after Sainsbury's extended its Aldi Price Match in November 2024 and the Co-op launched Aldi Price Match in 2025.

Bank of England research saw UK firms warn they think food inflation could jump as high as 7% as they increased their inflation outlook for next year.

Tesco Express launched in 1994 as a neighbourhood convenience format, with the first stores opening in Barnes and Norbury, London, often attached to petrol stations. The brand expanded rapidly, reaching 1,000 stores by 2009 and 2,000 by 2023. Today, these stores focus on high-margin products and everyday essentials, offering 3,000+ lines in neighbourhood locations
