The Other Bennet Sister star completely unrecognisable in new thriller

The Other Bennet Sister actor takes on a very dark role from his affable period drama alter-ego

Audiences tuning into Sky’s action drama Prisoner might recognise a familiar face.

One of the stars of BBC ’s phenomenally successful Regency period drama The Other Bennet Sister is going to be back on screens this evening (April 30) in a fresh new role.

Laurie Davidson, who plays the dashing Mr Ryder in BBC’s The Other Bennet Sister, takes on the part of Declan Dempsey in Sky’s action thriller Prisoner .

The character is the polar opposite of Mr Ryder and Davidson has completely transformed for the role.

Declan is the son of a mafia boss and is keen to earn his father’s approval, even if it comes at a high cost.

Speaking about his character in the forthcoming drama, Davidson teased: “Declan is the black sheep of this crime family. He hasn't performed in the way that his father would probably like.

Sky is giving away free subscriptions to Netflix, Disney+, HBO Max, Hayu and discovery+ to customers on the Ultimate TV bundle. This also includes 135 channels such as Sky Atlantic and Sky One.

“He's been quite unreliable growing up, and so when we first meet him, he's hungry for an opportunity to prove himself. He's not really taken that seriously within the organisation.

“His dad is under house arrest which presents an opportunity for Declan to prove himself and try and ultimately seize power and control this criminal syndicate.”

Prisoner will be debuting on Sky tonight at 9pm, however, the six part series will also be dropping as a boxset for those who prefer to binge their TV.

The show follows unsuspecting prisoner transport officer Amber Todd, played by Big Boys and Boiling Point’s Izuka Hoyle, whose first day back at work after maternity leave wasn’t quite what she was expecting.

Amber finds herself handcuffed to a highly-valued prisoner and hitman Tibor Stone (Tahar Rahim) after they forced to go on the run when their convoy is attacked by gangsters.

Tibor has become a prime target of crime syndicate Pegasus, which wants to silence him before he can testify against them at court.

So begins a tautly-woven tale with twists and turns as Amber and Tibor try to get to court in time for the trial.

The pair will be facing off against threats from Pegasus, including Declan and hitwoman and Tibor’s protégé Nina Dragus (Leonie Benesch).

Davidson went on to explain about the character: “Declan doesn't have the ability or the confidence to do it on his own.

“He's shown moments of brilliance, but he's inconsistent and crumbles under his father's gaze.

“I think under the right circumstances, can really excel but, he finds the pressure of his father all too much. Harrison fully expects him to fail, so he does.”

The star’s brand-new role comes as the cast of The Other Bennet Sister are promoting the series in the USA ahead of its release on BritBox.
