Boy George has detailed breaking down in tears after being caught up in the terror attack in Golders Green yesterday.

Just after 11am on Wednesday two men were attacked and stabbed in the North London suburb.

The two victims – who are said to be in stable condition in hospital – were later named as Shloime Rand, 34, and Moshe Shine, 76.

A 45-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder after being shot with a stun gun.

The government’s adviser on terrorism, Jonathan Hall, has said this incident and other recent attacks on Jewish people are ‘the biggest national security emergency’ in almost a decade.

Meanwhile Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood has also since committed £25million for security around synagogues, schools and community centres.

A day on from the shocking act of violence, Boy George has now revealed he was in the area as the emergency was unfolding.

Posting a video to X which showed police tape blocking access to a street, with several police cars and ambulances nearby, he wrote: ‘I was in Golders Green yesterday.

‘I arrived just as the police presence was building. My heart goes out to the two Jewish victims and to their loved ones.’

The musician, 64, then went on to declare that ‘we need to make our Jewish community know we support them’

‘Even before I knew what had happened, I was in tears because you could feel panic in the air. These are just regular people getting with their lives.

‘London has always been a great multicultural city. Our Jewish community brings us so much.

‘They are an integral part of the fabric of this city.’

Alongside the post, he added a link to 2006 song Love Is A Losing Game by the late Amy Winehouse.

Chloe Madeley also released a statement in which she said ‘humanity and compassion are needed now more than ever’ (Picture: Chloe Madeley/ Instagram)

Meanwhile TV personality Chloe Madeley also shared a post on social media, which read: ‘Golders Green is my home, its residents are my neighbours and friends, and this is a very real, very scary sequence of events. Humanity must prevail. Division is dangerous. Communities must stand together.’

In a statement on Instagram, she also wrote: ‘As a Golders Green resident for the last 29 years of my life I can say that the multiple, recent events of vandalism, arson, verbal abuse and violent attacks have been deeply upsetting and scary to witness.

‘So, I can only imagine how the Jewish community, my neighbours and friends, must be feeling during these times.

‘It’s incredibly important, now more than ever, that regardless of your own personal religious or political beliefs, you do not project blame or hate onto innocent people who, like all of us, are merely going about their day trying to live their lives, take care of their families and put food on the table.

‘I’m not saying that the above is necessarily what happened today, but over the last few months I have seen and heard things that lead me to believe this projection is both commonplace and seemingly acceptable.’

She went on: ‘As a resident, I will say that both the Shomrim and the Met have been omnipresent in the community, and even though I am not Jewish, I have felt deep gratitude for their presence.’

Concluding the post, Chloe said that ‘humanity and compassion are needed now more than ever’.

Last month Boy George defended himself for taking part in Eurovision this year after it was revealed he would represent San Marino, teaming up with Italian singer Senhit.

His participation comes after five countries have boycotted the contest after Israel was allowed to take part.

Speaking at the London Eurovision Party, he said: ‘I have many, many Jewish friends that I’ve had since I was 15 or 16 years old.’

‘Are people asking me as a principled human being to turn my back on my Jewish friends? It’s not going to happen, it’s never going to happen.

‘From the beginning of my career, I wore a Jewish star. Go back and look at pictures of Culture Club. I am so affiliated with Jewish people.’

When it came to Israel, he said he was ‘not necessarily affiliated’ with the country so didn’t ‘really have an opinion on that’.

The incident in Golders Green – which comes a month after an arson attack targeting Jewish charity-owned ambulances in the same suburb – has again renewed concerns about the safety and protection of the Jewish community in the UK.

Chief Rabbi Sir Ephraim Mirvis has said the latest attack proved that ‘if you are visibly Jewish, you’re not safe’.

Meanwhile Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said the ‘antisemitic attack’ was ‘utterly appalling’.
