Family and friends gathered at St. Munchin's parish in her native Limerick, Ireland, to pay their final respects to Scarlett Faulkner, who died on Monday, April 13, 2026. Her death came three weeks after she sustained catastrophic head injuries in an attack in County Tipperary.
The incident occurred on Saturday, March 21, on the R494 near the village of Birdhill. Ms. Faulkner was found with severe injuries and was subsequently placed on life support at Cork University Hospital. For weeks, her family maintained a constant vigil by her bedside, hoping for a miracle. The difficult decision was made to withdraw life support after medical assessments confirmed the severity of her condition. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family.
In a moving eulogy, Ms. Faulkner's sister, Victoria, told the packed church how her sibling made their "bad days better" and would be remembered for her "beautiful smile and loving personality." Tributes have poured in from heartbroken relatives, including her young daughter, for whom a floral tribute read: “Love u mommy, ur diamond eyes daughter Oceanna.” Ahead of the funeral, the family had appealed for unity and peace among mourners, asking that no alcohol be present to ensure there would be no trouble. One theory being examined is that the car Ms. Faulkner was traveling in may have been rammed by another vehicle, after which she was dragged from her car and attacked. A woman and a 16-year-old girl have been charged in connection with the incident. The teenager is charged with assault causing serious harm, while the woman faces charges including violent disorder and reckless endangerment.
The investigation into the motive for the attack is ongoing, and a Family Liaison Officer has been appointed to support Ms. Faulkner's family. As the legal proceedings move forward, the community has been left to mourn the loss of a young mother whose life was cut tragically short.
