Here's how to get 'Hamilton' tickets for $10 via the digital lottery

The Tony Award-winning smash musical is at the Fisher Theatre April 29-May 3.

For fans of the groundbreaking musical "Hamilton," the chance to be in "the room where it happens" for just a ten-dollar bill remains a reality thanks to its ongoing digital lottery. As the mega-hit continues its North American tour, a limited number of tickets for every performance are set aside for lucky winners at the cost of an Alexander Hamilton-adorned $10 note. This initiative has been a staple of the show since its early Broadway days, designed to make the often high-priced theater experience more accessible.

The process to enter the lottery is straightforward and handled primarily through the official "Hamilton" app, available for both iOS and Android devices, or via the Lucky Seat website in some cities. Hopeful attendees can enter the lottery for one or two tickets. The entry window for the week's upcoming performances typically opens at 10:00 AM on Friday and closes the following Thursday at 12:00 PM in the local time zone of the performance city. Entrants can select which of the next week's shows they wish to try for. Only one entry per person is allowed for each performance.

Notifications are sent to both winners and non-winners on Thursday afternoons, generally between 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM. Winners receive an email and a push notification from the app and must act quickly; they have a tight two-hour window to claim and purchase their tickets online with a credit card. These tickets are non-transferable and must be picked up at the theater's box office beginning two hours before the show. A valid, non-expired photo ID matching the name used to enter is required to collect the tickets.

The number of lottery tickets available for each show can vary, with Broadway productions historically offering around 46 seats and touring productions offering approximately 40. These are often prime seats in the front rows, adding to the allure of winning. The demand far outweighs the supply, making a win a significant long shot, with an estimated 10,000 entries per performance at the peak of the show's popularity. The digital lottery, affectionately known as Ham4Ham, evolved from the early days of the Broadway run when creator Lin-Manuel Miranda and the cast would perform for the crowds gathered outside the theater for the in-person lottery.

As of the spring of 2026, the touring production of "Hamilton" is scheduled to play in Chicago through late April before moving to Detroit's Fisher Theatre from April 29 to May 17. Subsequent stops are planned for Durham, North Carolina, and Nashville, Tennessee. Theatre-goers in these and future tour cities will have their opportunity to enter the digital lottery and take their shot at seeing the celebrated musical for a fraction of the standard ticket price.
