Indian Hotels Company (IHCL), a major player in India's hospitality sector, has announced a significant expansion of its footprint in the country's northeast with the signing of a new hotel in Dirang, Arunachal Pradesh. This move signals a strategic focus on emerging tourism circuits and adds to the growing portfolio of branded accommodations in the region. The new property will be operated under the upscale Gateway brand, marking a deeper push into Arunachal Pradesh's developing travel landscape.
The planned hotel is a 70-room greenfield project, meaning it will be a new construction. It is situated in Dirang, a town in the West Kameng district known for its scenic beauty, including apple orchards and natural hot springs. The location is strategically important, as Dirang serves as a key stopover for tourists traveling to the popular high-altitude destination of Tawang. The development is a partnership between IHCL and Phurpa Tsering, a prominent local developer. This collaboration model is expected to blend IHCL's hospitality standards with local insights, contributing to sustainable tourism.
This project represents a broader strategy by IHCL to pioneer new destinations and cater to the rising demand for travel in previously under-penetrated markets. The addition of the Dirang property will bring IHCL's portfolio in Northeast India to 21 hotels, including 12 that are currently under development. These facilities will significantly upgrade the hospitality infrastructure available in the area.
